Interview for Traumatized Webzine by Jamie Webster March 2005 |
How would you describe the type of music you play for those who haven't heard any of your material?
Well we play old school goredeathmetal, plain and simple, this is about PURE SPLATTER B-MOVIE GORE!!!!!!!!!!! the oldschool way. Lyrically we range from 80's cartoons and Television series, to every aspect of Gore/horror/ Splatter/Slasher/Shit and ofcorpse a bunch of Pornstuffs get ready for the attack of couch potato gore!!!!!! Fondlecorpse the soundtrack to a bad B-movie, cheesy but fun that sums it up alright i think.
Both Fondlecorspe releases are on 7"... is there any reason behind this? Do you prefer vinyl over CD as a cult item?
Well we hardly did the 7” ep’s as cult items. We are just an oldschool band who wants to do demos / 7” records first before progressing to doing a cd. So the 7” are basically our “demo’s”, us trying to find out sound. However its universally known that vinyl sounds better than a cd the sound is warmer and fuller so we like that and the fact that the artwork on it can be displayed on a bigger area. But basically we did the vinyls for the love we have for the format. But we will be re-releasing both ep’s on a cd soon on Posercrusher records from Holland so people without a recordplayer can also listen to our stuff, we got a lot of mail if we could re-release it on cd, so what the fans want they get. We aren’t out to make our stuff rare and cult by limiting it. We do however like our fans to get their hands on something special and of good quality so we do try to make our releases special and not release cheap ass crap.
Can you give some information on the 4 upcoming splits in progress, will we be hearing all-new material?
First of, yes these releases will feature all new material on every one of them. The first one that is close to being finished is the split cd with Engorged which will be about 80’s thrashculture/cartoons exclusively and will feature about 6 or 7 new songs from us. Prepare to be beat up by all your childhood tv heroes. We should be able to hit a studio soon for this release, we also have started work on the split MCD with Frightmare which will be (ofcourse) a combined slasher worship release with each of us doing about 4 songs. Only our side will feature more creature based slashers for obvious reasons we are the B-movie little monster masters hehehe, its our plan to record those songs the same time as for the Engorged split cd. These two should be done this year with any luck. The other two splits are for the future a split with Zombieritual and with Kadaverficker, The Kadaverficker one will be the theme misanthropy and will feature some dark stuff i wrote during one of my depressions inspired by lovecraftian topics too. Should be interesting. But those are for the future still. Lots to do before these latter two though.
Have you got any plans to do anything more with Razorback Records after featuring on the Horror Hive compilation? Seems as if the Hive would make a great home for the band.
Actually we have been part of the hive for a while, we got signed a few years ago to be exact september 10, 2003 at 8:49PM we got assimilated into the hive it was a glorious day indeed haha, but we decided that we first want to go through the demo phase and build our own sound before we do our debut cd on Razorback and the Razorback people found it a good idea also. When we got signed we could either rush a cd with inferior and filler material or take our time and do some 7” and grow as a band. We decided to choose the latter one. We have no rush we just want to release the best stuff we can. So far it turned out good after the first 7” we enlisted a permanent bassist and after the second 7” we got the help from Colon Bowel from Lord gore to play drums on future releases. So Slowly its all working out. We are slowly gearing up to write the first full album for Razorback. I have already started compiling a setlist and writing lyrics and making definative choices for the album. I hope to get started on it and finish a big part of it this year, so we shall see how fast it goes. But work has definately started on the album!!
What music do you listen to in your spare time, and does Fondlecorpse attempt to carry on in the footsteps of any great bands now deceased?
Usually i just listen to oldschool deathmetal or thrashdeath, and for some straggler other genres Misfits, oldschool hardcore (when it wasn’t faggots), and horror movie soundtracks. Thats pretty much what gets played in my house. I need my music loud and agressive to deal with frustration and anger so i can be seen stomping thru the house banging my head all the time. I just hope nobody ever tapes me jumping around the house banging and jumping on the table playing a mean airguitar in my Star Wars boxershorts..........i mean uhm........ i ofcourse don’t do that............really forget i mentioned it. And well carry on in the footsteps of old bands....... i guess so, but more their mentality than actually copying bands. Some bands who influenced us would be Autopsy for sheer sickness and cool honest underground attitude, Impetigo are definately a band we respect because of their devotion to the scene and always getting back to all their fans. I try to mail everybody back so i write a lot of letters back to people and shit, and treat everybody with respect and refuse to ever become a rockstar that shits on his fans. Somethimes i get a lot of e-mails from people but i always try to get back and reply personally to every one of them. It’s always fun to meet more sick demented freaks like us. So the oldschool values i try to uphold when people were more supportive than the folks these days and we don’t see our fans as cashcows but more part of the family. It’s all about fun while making brutal music.
Can you paint us a verbal picture of your DVD collection [if at all existent]?
Hahaha holy shit a verbal picture hmmm........ and well the collection is existent, existent a lot you could say i am a DVD junky i need new stuff all the time, the house is littered with several hundreds of DVD’s. I devouwer those fuckers like mad. Ive been collecting movies all my life so i also have a closet filled with VHS tapes. But i am now slowly replacing those with DVD’s. I collect every weird/horror genre imaginable: Horror/Gore/Splatter Cannibals, Zombies, Giallo’s, Exploitation, Sexploitation, Creature features, Man in rubber suit flicks, Kaiju, Sci-gore, Slasher flicks, Japanese horror, Italian horror, Eurotrash, Hammer flicks, Post-apocalyptic movies, cheesy fantasy / gorebarian, Spaghetti Westerns, Stopmotion flicks (harryhausen), 80’s thrashculture flicks and almost every 80’s cartoon and tv series available on DVD. People have suggested to me to seek help and enroll myself into a clinic to get cured of my addiction hahahaha. DVD’s rule and you can never have enough of the little buggers!!!!!!! it’s a addiction for sure, i can tell you that.
OK here's the big question, what are your top ten films of all time?
Hahhaha you must be kidding? there is no way i can compile a top ten list i have favorite top ten lists for almost every genre imaginable. IMPOSSIBLE. I can give some random favorites but a list.......i wouldn’t know where to start hahaha. Some i really like in no particular order are: Star Wars, Critters, Ghoulies, Romero Night/dawn/day of the living dead, ROTLD, Everything with Jason Voorhees, (Japanese) Godzilla flicks, Re-animator, The Thing, Toxic avenger, Predator, Braindead, Bad Taste, Zombie, Evil Dead, Munchies. I dunno man so much good shit out there. I have to dissapoint and keep it at this before i type out my whole collection.
What do you think ultimately influenced you to take the path of gore? I mean, before the music obviously.
Well i guess the influence has always been there, be it through music, movies, comics, cartoons, games, serialkiller books, true crime, medical oddities, mutants etc etc. I guess ive always been a sick son of a bitch with an intrest in the weirder things and gory things of life and than when i was old enough and found out about bands i kinda rolled into playing in goremetal bands and have been ever since. I can’t even remember a time i wasn’t into this shit. It’s just a part of me i guess. If there would be no gore in my life it would be a boring tedious life indeed.
Setting aside the band and watching films what do you generally do to make cash these days [besides selling organs on Ebay]?
Yeah sadly a band and watching movies doesn’t pay the bills actually they only cost money hahaha so i am just your average joe slaving away at a normal minimum wage job to keep afloat, i used to be a graphic designer for a few years, worked at a dvd mailorder and did a lot of freelancing and odd jobs. Basically i do what i can to pay the bills and keep the band going. Sorry, we aren’t rich rockstars we are just your average struggling bastards just trying to keep afloat living from bill to bill hahaha. And i am all out of organs hahaha currently i am auctioning my left testicle bidding starts at 0,02 cents.
Say the first things which come into your head with the following words...
Relapse - Went down the shitter after Bill left.
Budweiser - Rather have some Belgian beers
Cybergoregrind - Catasexual Urge Motivation
Coprophagia - I flush shit, i don’t eat it or fuck it
Autopsy - Legendary band and fucking sick
Right, I'll let you get back to the TV, anything else you'd like to say?
Well thanx for the interview with our pathetic asses, it’s much appreciated. As for everybody into cheesy gory B-movies, get your ass down to our website at http://www.fondlecorpse.nl and hang out with us freaks.
